The Large Fjord Tour
An extensive but comfortable guided walking tour along the waterfront covering all the most popular and important buildings, parks and developments in central Oslo. Including the Opera-house.
This entertaining architectural tour includes both the little Fjord tour (link), the City-centre called Kvadraturen and the new Bjørvika-district with the Opera, the Munch museet (the opera house and the Munch museum) and the new city-library Deichman Bjørvika, called after the charitable businessman and Oslo-inhabitant Deichman.
The area of Bjørvika was once referred to as "the kitchen entrance to Oslo", exclusively a port area. In just two decades the area of one million square meters was transformed into housing and office space, mixed with public service, shopping and culture. The main river in Oslo, Akerselva, which marks the line between west- and east Oslo flows into the fjord here. A natural landscape with native vegetation and recreation areas was designed along the riverbanks.
The visitor will get a good insight in contemporary architecture, landscape architecture and city planning in Oslo, but also in Norwegian culture and Norwegian history. We will organise a few inside-visits and delve deeper into the architecture. For this tour we can easily add individual interests and wishes which can be determined and worked out in advance: housing, art and culture, city development, dealing with existing building mass and transformation and sustainability in Norwegian architecture.
This tour is a very entertaining guided walking tour central in Oslo with a distance of circa 2-3 km. (The distances can partly be covered by tram). Good shoes and clothes due to the weather are recommended.
